7 Kitchen Desks That Make Working from Home (Almost) Fun
Since a lot more of us are working from home these days, there’s a lot more focus on home offices that’s why I love to include kitchen desks in my designs.
When I’m designing a kitchen with a desk, I always include a Docking Drawer for charging tech devices out of sight, file drawers, room for kids’ art supplies, drawers with slots for pens and pencils, a display for knickknacks, kids’ art and sometimes a TV or printer.
Since the centerpiece of any work-from-home setup is your desk, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite kitchen desks to inspire you.
Neutral and Natural
This kitchen workspace from Jackie of Finding Lovely based in Wellesley, Massachusetts hits all the right notes. We love the way the white cabinetry is warmed by natural touches from the woven chair and baskets on the open shelving.
A Touch of Blue
This kitchen desk I created for a Larchmont, New York client makes me smile. It matches the kitchen cabinetry color scheme with clean white cabinets on top, a warm natural oak desktop, and a crisp navy desk below. We added a little open inset and mesh-front cabinets for displaying treasured bowls and collectibles.
Tiny Desk Corner
A kitchen desk doesn’t have to take up a lot of space. Designer Mary McKee in Newton, Massachusetts included this chic slip-of-a-desk as an extension of the marble countertop. A Cherner stool – an icon of mid-century design – elevates the space.
Tile Details
Las Vegas designer Jessie Thomas elevates her kitchen desk with a wall of tile behind her workspace. The basketweave pattern with dark grouting creates a fractal pattern that makes the wall visually stimulating.
Desk With a View
This kitchen desk by the team at SemBro Designs in Columbus, Ohio is perfect for a business meeting or a guided homework session. The perpendicular windows let natural light – and a little bit of inspiration – come streaming in.
Wood Working
Though we can’t see the entire room, the team at Dart Studio in Toronto does a great job of integrating this desk into the flow of the kitchen. Using the same character wood and the sculpted pink chair next to the warm-hued banquette makes it feel like an extension of the rest of the kitchen.
Good Light
This just may be the favorite kitchen desk we’ve done so far. I love the way the bold blue contrasts with the wood floors and desktop, the corkboard for displaying kids’ work, and the file storage we included below. The picture window makes it an ideal place to get inspired by nature as you work.
